@monkshoodr replied: ugh! wtf are those??? that’s horrifying

right?? They’re from this show called Jay Jay the Jet Plane which was apparently a spinoff of Thomas the Tank Engine? Looking over the wikipedia page, I feel like I was too old to be watching this show when it was actually on, so how it permeated my unconscious effectively enough to basically give me nightmares nearly 20 years later is a mystery

Then again, looking at this thing, I’m not that surprised

Author asks! 4, 23, 24

4: favorite character you’ve written
That’s a tough one. Because much as I love Ginny, I don’t think I write her as well as I do Mike. She’s more of a challenge, which on the one hand is great and fun and rewarding, but on the other hand, is so much more work.

I guess I would say pining!Mike and troll!Ginny, though.

23: any obscure life experiences that you feel have helped your writing?
Okay, this isn’t bawson related, but it’s an insult to clown cars is very loosely based on a real life experience. If you have an asshole for a local legislator, I cannot recommend highly enough the satisfaction that comes with yelling at them in person.

Also, he’s got new dreams he’s building upon isn’t a direct translation of my experience in my high school theater program, but it’s definitely influenced by it.

24: have you ever become an expert on something you previously knew nothing about, in order to better a scene or a story?
The problem for me is that even when I do a ton of research, most of it doesn’t actually end up in whatever I write. I mostly use it for making sure the internal logic of the story works. But here are the stories that I remember putting in more time than strictly necessary researching stuff + what I researched:

Her Motto “Do or Die”: The All American Girl’s Professional Baseball League

Waiting For Your Heart’s Defection: spy stuff, specifically the International Spy Museum’s glossary

she’s overboard, self assured: the Rule 4 Draft and too much about North Carolina Public Schools

situation: lost control: Vegas weddings

fic asks: 12, 31, 44

12. favorite place to write
I actually don’t have a favorite place? I typically end up on the couch, curled up in the corner, which is doing some interesting things to my back… I’m currently trying out this old, slant-top desk I have. It’s set up by the front windows and I keep getting distracted by bugs flying by, but my spinal column is in the right shape, so I guess it’s something of a trade off.

I do not do well writing in public spaces, though; coffee shops, libraries, whatever. I always feel like people are reading over my shoulder and get weirded out. I wrote almost the entirety of my senior thesis on locked in my dorm, so.

31. easiest part of writing
Huh. That’s a toughie. Mostly because this thing I’m currently working on is such a struggle bus all around. Like, I can’t figure out what tone I want to go for, when, typically, that’s not something that I ever consider.

I guess I would say the brainstorming/planning process. That’s mostly because I very rarely actually use any kind of planning process, though. But, it’s generally pretty easy for me to come up with how I want to address a prompt, especially if I feel like the prompter wants me to go a particular way?

44. do you write linear or do you write future scenes if you feel like it?
I’m honestly trying to think if I’ve ever written anything from front to back and aside from really short stuff, I don’t think I have. I will write whatever scene comes to me first, and that usually ends up being the beginning, but then my brain will take off on a tangent and I’ll leave the first scene in the middle of a sentence to get down whatever else my brain’s come up with. Rinse and repeat until I’m left with a set of vaguely connected bursts of story and only the haziest ideas of how it’s all supposed to fit together.

Which is why I’m such a fan of the horizontal lines you can insert in the text. Just pop one of those bad boys in and there’s no need to worry about transitions.

Hide (for the WIP thing)

Four! If we’re counting all forms. Which of course I did.

draft: way more than you hate it
Ginny hummed and Mike watched, not bothering to hide the smile breaking across his face. “My dad used to make me practice with nectarines,” she said. “But I would’ve loved a ball like this. It would’ve been so much easier to find in the dark!”

The girl finally cracked a smile, giggling. Before she could say anything else, though, she turned at the sound of someone calling.

draft: guys like you ch. 2
“Oh my God!” she whirls on her smirking captain, keeping her other thoughts to herself and just barely restraining the urge to slug him. “Where were you even hiding?”

He shrugs, sliding into the seat Noah just vacated. A seat that’s all too close to hers. With Noah, it had been cute. A little annoying, but mostly cute. With Mike, it’s nearly overwhelming.

draft: lose inhibitions/give exhibitions
Ginny’s face falls. If she’d been sober, Mike’s sure that she would’ve done a better job of hiding the dismay. Then again, if she’d been sober, he wouldn’t have to keep her at arm’s length right now. They’d both probably be making themselves very at home in that bed of hers.

But she’s not, so she also doesn’t manage to hold her tongue.

draft: a habit worth forming or she’s overboard, self assured
Which is why, one early afternoon, she puts a condom from the stash Will thinks he’s hidden so well in his hand. She doesn’t want to think about it. Not now and not in the future.

Besides, she likes Scott. This is what girls do with the boys they like, isn’t it?

leave a word in my inbox and I’ll tell you if it’s in one of my WIPs!

G, I, L and/or M

G – Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?
I typically start with the beginning and write until I get another idea for something that will happen in the future, skip a few lines and write until I get another idea, skip a few lines, so on and so forth until I have a bunch of random stuff that I have to go back and try to piece together.

I – Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
Hmm. No? I will always read an enemies to friends to lovers fic, though. And mutual pining. But I wouldn’t say I feel guilty for enjoying those.

L – How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Usually once at the very end. But since I very rarely write a fic in one sitting, every time I come back, I read through what I have and tweak things here and there. Also, sometimes I’ll procrastinate adding new stuff to a fic by going back and editing what I already have.

M – Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?
Oh geez. How much time do you have? Right now, I’m trying to focus on all the prompts I have waiting for me, so stuff that I come up with on my own is on the back burner. But according to the spreadsheet I started to keep track of everything, I’ve got like 10-20 little snippets of things that might work their way into something else or get blown up into their own fic.

When I do have an actual premise, and not just a few dashed off sentences, it tends to be smut, though. Like: how does Mike deal with all the dreams he has about Ginny? And how competitive do they get in bed? Or what does angry sex look like for Bawson?

I’ll take anything. Write what makes you happy!

I can beg it you need me too. Because I’m definitely asking

why is everyone so sweet?? it’s very reassuring, (and thank you!!) but at some point I need someone to tell me to stop messing around and write the prompts that I asked people to send me

this is just one of those days where i think that i need adult supervision only to realize i’m, technically an adult.

“i think i’m officially caught up on my prompts!! (plus another chapter…”

hmm… a) how they deal with the first spring training after Mike retires b) Mike makes a hilarious blooper at first base and Ginny won’t let him live it down c) Ginny moves out of the hotel and can’t get room service, so Mike volunteers to teach her to cook. (Hope that helps! Feel free to use or ignore!)

Ooh, those are all really good ones! I’ll definitely be adding them to my list!! (I’ve definitely already got ideas about the second one. Ginny’s gonna be such a little shit, Mike will take it all like a champ, but Blip will be having none of it!)

Here’s one I haven’t seen tackled: how did a girl in North Carolina end up with a San Diego Padre as her favorite player? (Her room had Braves gear in it.) Another thought: Ginny trying to handle it when she and Mike are together but not public and women hit on him while they’re out with the team.

I’ve been wondering about the Padres thing, too! Liking the Braves makes sense, since North Carolina doesn’t have an MLB team, but the Padres is way outta left field. I could see the Dodgers, if she were to go for a California team, but the Padres??

….so rude.

listen, i’m only following in the footsteps of the greater bawson trash heap. as evidenced by:

This is EXACTLY what I’m writing for my 1×08 missing scene. Sigh. You guys get me 😉

This is excellent and I can’t wait to read it!!!
